Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)
Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) renders up to 79 weeks of benefits to certifying individuals who are otherwise able to work and present for work within the meaning of applicable state law, apart from that they are unemployed, partially unemployed, or unable or unavailable to work at the time of COVID-19 similar reasons, as stated in the CARES Act. Individuals may be qualified for PUA if they are not qualified for or have finished regular unemployment insurance (regular UI) and all other unemployment compensation. Individuals who are qualified to accept regular UI benefits are not qualified to accept PUA benefits. Before applying for PUA, ensure you file a claim for regular UI at www.azui.com or click on HERE
Benefit payments under PUA are retroactive, for weeks of unemployment, partial employment, or Incapacity to work due to COVID-19 beginning:
- On or after January 27, 2020, for claimants who submitted their initial application before December 27, 2020; or
- On or after December 1, 2020, claimants submitted their initial application for the period of December 27, 2020.
The American Rescue Plan Act identifies that qualified claimants can accept PUA benefits via the benefit week closing on September 4, 2021, or until their benefits are finished, whichever comes earlier
